Judges
Our 4 judges are dancers who embody the authentic experience of the battle. They are seasoned competitors who understand the codes, stakes, and commitment involved in these competitions. Their styles, techniques, and mastery in various dance forms are assets that align with the spirit of the AJT battle.
JoYsS is well known for his multi-artistic experience.
He originally comes from Hip-hop Culture, where the mission of every dancer is to build up your own style and respect all inspirations without taking away any nature of it.
His purpose is not to dance swing with “modern moves”… He just brings his own experience, challenges himself and tries to level up exactly like the old school dancers did in the golden age, as if they never stopped dancing until now.
He is one of the most accomplished French figures in the international swing scene today.
Jazz dance performer and teacher from China, Mako has been immersing herself in traditional and contemporary dances from Hawaii and Guinea since 2010. There, she has collaborated with the local artists creating crossover numbers, sharing the stage in dance competitions and teaching workshops together.
Fascinated by the universal joy of dance, she merges West African influences to find her own voice in jazz.
Mako celebrates jazz legends while connecting them to their African roots. In her classes, she likes to focus on the essence of movement, inviting dancers to feel the rhythm and connect to the music, so inseparable from dance.
Régis is a true artistic chameleon, navigating with ease and talent through various artistic disciplines : choreographer, performer, director, in France and abroad.
His love for eccentric dances and his ambition to connect jazz dance and hip-hop make him a truly valuable judge for
the AJT battle bringing not only his rich and varied experience, but also his contagious passion for art and creativity in the world of dance.
A notable figure in hip-hop, he judged the battle and choreographed the closing scene of the Juste Debout in 2009. Régis is today considered by his peers as one of the precursors of this discipline.
Alex McCormack, based in Brussels, is a former competitive Bboy who switched to Jazz more than a decade ago.
Influenced by his Hip Hop background, he emphasises the importance of a solid Authentic Jazz foundation, as taught by the Old Timers.
He believes in taking this foundation and creatively adapting it to develop one’s unique style, thereby growing and contributing to the art form.
